in search of the sea lost , the second part

                   II.

Since Hagya was over 40s, two visions would often turn up

before his mind's eye, lingering about for a while and ran out of sight .

Both were the exact resemblance of the two images familiar to him,

one of which was the little sea coming in and going out

before his house in his boyhood , and the other was an image of

the sanatorium he spent in 4 years and more in his 20s.

The former came into sight as a moving image of it at high tide,

shining silverly in gentle waves, with the dog named 'Badugi'

playing by the boy and, on appearing, turned  to be a burning blaze

brightening his way toward the future. In contrast, the latter was

that of the lit-up corridor of the sanatorium in the late evening,

with tens of faces wearing red grape- colored mantles ,symbolizing

a dark grey lake of sorrow reminding of Bach's cello melodies

running deep and triste .The two would appear to him,

sometimes individually and at times together at the same time

with one piled on another. However, in case of the latter,

after the vision  turning up disappeard, it for sure was followed

by his yearning for the little sea lost.

바다 나들이 후 he quit the job of writing articles as an editorial writer.

had tried in vain to get out of the job.

He reached to a sujective judgement that the job of writing current

affairs on the newspaper as a journalist prevented him from writing

literary works of his own. He had a desire in a corner of his mind

to get himself free out of the job for which he should cling

to every social affairs days and nights. He wished to write literary works

in the style of personal essay-turned novels, with poetic etmosphere

and  rhythm in them. In this relation 그는 늘 스스로에게 물음을 던지곤

했었다.

"리듬과 각운이 없으면서도 충분히 음악적이며,

상념의 물결침에 걸맞는

시적 산문'을 쓸 수 없을까?"

Hagya는 깨달았다.that he have kept  in his mind a piece of

charming line of poetic prose ,below, ever since he came upon it

in his high school days

"In order to write a line of poem, You have to meet

many cities, many people, and many books. Above all,

you can recollect the nights spent on the road of your journey

which passed away in vanity with myriards of stars

twinkling on the night sky."

It was an advice full of suggestuon Raina Maria Rilke

gave a youth who wished to become a writer.
