Preface
Two years ago Moon, as an essayist living in Korea, wrote
an e-book in English and had it published in USA, the title of which
was 'Flamenco Journey,' for a purpose: to earn money to win
his three grandchildren's favor by giving nice presents to them.
He knew well that one of them, a preschool boy living in LA,
wanted to have a toy helicopter, and the other two living in Seoul,
a school girl and a school boy, became old enough to realize
how powerful the money in the pocket was. Unfortunately,
few readers were interested in his e-book.
Recently he wrote another book in English and had it published,
this time, as a paper one, hoping that some day an American Young man
would happen to read it ,recalling his grandfather to his mind?
The writer now miss the places,-Seattle, Portland, Granada, and Siberia-
where he stayed as a traveler. Before going to Seattle, he did not know
hostels he loved to stay there because he could be on intimate terms with
young travelers from all of the world. In Portland he had first an encounter
with flamenco, which had an important effect on his outlook on life.
Aboard the running Siberian train, he could for the first time understand
what it meant by the phrase of "A running train makes me sad".
It was in an essay titled "The things which make us sad", by Anton Sunak
This travelling essay is written on not a plot for story,
but his impressions or association of ideas. he was rather indifferent to
the places he journeyed to. This episodes have less to do with geography
than with anticipation, memory , emotions. and imagination.
This lend itself first to the form of a set of a monologue by a traveler.
And it is a kind of dialogue between him on the road and past,
particularly writers before him who dealt with literary visions.
Jean Grenier, Camus, Annie Dillard, Tostoevsky etc. It would be right
to say that this is something like a vision by nature poetic, not narrative!
Anyway, as for this writer, he would think like this:
"to travel makes a life change.
While we are is on the long road, we could experience
a crucial encounter which make us have another outlook to
see life."
?
Anyway, below is one example of the emails sent to him:
Hi, Jaden;
How are you ?
How is your condition, today?
This is your grandfather,
getting worried about your injured arm.
Your Grandmother said that
because of the bandaged arm ,
you became the center of interest at the preschool yesterday.
Grandmother said that
your friends got much interested in your bandaged arm.
Is that true?
Grandfather is thinking of Jaden, your mother and father,
And also Dongshig, the dog in your house.
Does the dog like to play with you, Jaden?
Your grandfather was happy last spring
to play with Jaden and Dongshig in the garden of your house.
These days, do you like to read books
together with your mother and father ?
What is the name of the book you like very much?
Grandfather wants to share emails with you,Jaden
and also hope that Jaden will email to grandfather someday
